World Book Day 2025 – 12/03/25

March 12th, 2025|

On Thursday 6th March, we celebrated World Book Day. This day is celebrated in over 100 countries. The purpose of the day is to celebrate reading books, and to encourage young people to develop a love for reading.

Our students took part in a number of book-inspired activities throughout the day. These included the online World Book Day quiz, which featured a number of exciting hosts and guests. There was also a fantastic online forum with Premier League footballers which our students particularly enjoyed.

Next week we have the West Sussex Library bus visiting us again. This will give our students an opportunity to exchange books and refresh our library collection.

Forest School Cam – 04/03/25

March 4th, 2025|

We once again managed to see our friendly female badger on our forest school camera trap.

As you can see, she is dragging nesting material to make a cosy den followed by a good old leg scratch!

We could happily watch her all day.

This year’s theme is ‘Too Good to be True? Protecting yourself and others from scams online’.

Throughout the week, our students have been using a number of resources available from the UK Safer Internet Centre website.

These resources included quizzes, presentations and top tips. We also had a number of discussions about the importance of keeping safe online.

Further details, along with resources can be found directly on the Safer Internet Centre website: https://saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/safer-internet-day-2025

Quarry Farm – 12/02/25

February 12th, 2025|

Quarry Farm is a local riding school whom we have developed a great working relationship with.

Rosie is the proprietor at Quarry Farm. She has helped a few of our students complete the ‘Changing Lives Through Horses’ programme, which is run by The British Horse Society. This is a programme we also offer onsite at Philpots Manor School.

Details of this programme can be found here: https://www.bhs.org.uk/go-riding-and-learn/changing-lives-through-horses/

Our equine teacher recently took some of our students to meet with the staff at Quarry Farm. The aim of the visit was to continue to build our working relationship, and for students to explore the surroundings in the hope they will be interested in gaining some work experience with them in the future.

Drusillas Park – 11/02/25

February 11th, 2025|

A small group of our BTEC students went to Drusillas Park on Friday 31st January.

Our students are currently studying ‘Feeding and Accommodating Animals’. We felt this would be a great place to further their knowledge as the Zoo at Drusillas is home to hundreds of exotic animals.

Whilst there, we were able to see where the animals live and the different types of foods they eat. We listened to a number of interesting talks led by the staff at Drusillas.

One of the talks was based on ‘Pet Animals’ which included rats, snakes and insects.

Our students particularly enjoyed listening to the importance of the Zoo’s role in breeding endangered animals.

It was a fantastic, fun and informative trip.
