Numeracy

The maths curriculum consolidates learning from previous years and engages, enthuses and inspires pupils about maths and its real-life applications. Students work at the year group level appropriate to the individual, and lessons are differentiated appropriately.

1-7 Pupils revisit some of these topics during the year to reinforce their learning.

Addition and subtraction
Multiplication and division
Fractions, decimals and percentages
Measurement – money, time, length, mass, capacity
Geometry – shape, position and directionStatistics – data handling
8-9 Pupils build upon their knowledge gained in year 7 and work on the following topics:

Fractions, decimals and percentages
Ratio and proportion
Algebra
Measurement – money, time, length, mass, capacity
Geometry – shape, position and directionStatistics – data handling
Upper School There are two pathways in the upper school and both include accreditation:
Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Mathematics 
This course is designed to develop numeracy skills and help pupils respond to a range  of real life situations that are also relevant to the workplace.
Pearson Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 
Pupils will sit three exams at the end of the course to achieve a grade of 9-1. Higher tier covers grades 9 to 4. Foundation tier covers grades 5 to 1.The more able students may also progress to Pearson Edexcel A-Level Mathematics
