Speech and Language Therapy

Communication is one of the core challenges for people with learning and emotional difficulties, autism or ADHD. The SaLT team at Philpots Manor aim to support learners to gain meaningful communication skills which are essential for learning and developing social relationships.

Each student is individually assessed for verbal comprehension and listening skills, vocabulary, expressive language and social skills. If therapy is required, it is delivered either individually or in groups. Therapy staff, teachers and houseparents liaise regularly with each other and student’ families to support communication throughout the whole school setting and at home.

Each student is offered a tailor made package of therapy to meet their individual needs to enable them to access the curriculum and to develop their communication skills at school, at home and in the community. The aim is to improve communication. This involves not only verbal but also non-verbal aspects of communication and social skills.
