Our BTEC Animal Care students were very lucky to visit a local farm called Butterbox Farm in May. They saw the bulls, cows with their calves, and pigs. In their Animal Care unit, the students were able to look at where the animals are housed and the variety of food they eat.
The students watched the farmer moving the fence for the cows as they are on a strip grazing system where they have new fresh grass daily to ensure no grass waste.
They then walked through the field to meet the pigs which are kept in a fenced paddock where they root up the ground.
We are planning to return to the farm in July to meet some new born piglets.
