60th Birthday Celebrations!

This year we are celebrating our 60th Birthday! Happy Birthday to us! There will be Tea&Cake served between 2pm and 4pm on Friday 24th May 2019 for ex-students, ex-staff and some current staff members as well. This will be an opportunity to catch up with some old friends, see some old faces and to have a brief tour of the school. We will also be planting a tree in celebration of the day. If you would like to attend then please contact the school front office on Tel: 01342 810268. Thankyou.

We have a visitor!

This year at Philpots we have been really excited to start our Forest School lessons. We have kindly been given the use of 28 acres of woodland by our neighbour Lord Limerick and, under the leadership of Doug and Tom our Forest School Instructors, we have begun lighting fires, foraging for food and……….finding we have badgers!

Birdwatch 2019

January is the month when students enjoy the RSPB’s Big School’s Birdwatch. This year we set up Top Bungalow as a sort of bird hide. We kept record sheets, drew pictures and took photos, admiring the acrobatic tits, the shy chaffinches and wrens, and the bold beautiful robins, to name just a few.

Our Advent Spiral

It must be getting close to Christmas as last week we had our Advent Spiral.

Advent, a time of anticipation leading up to Christmas, is a time of preparation like that parents might feel when expecting a child. It is a time when we literally, as the carol says, “Deck the hall with sprigs of holly.” The mood and beauty is really something to behold. Thank you to all who took part, singing carols, providing music, telling and listening to a story and of course to all those who walked into the spiral, lit their apple-candle and then carefully placed it amongst the greenery on their way out.

We love chocolate at Philpots!

In Simon’s class this term they have been learning all about chocolate – where it comes from, how it is made and all the different varieties. They have also been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We all got treated in our school assembly to some of the different chocolates they had made – thankyou everyone in Simon’s class!

Anti Bullying Week 12th – 16th November

This week in class we will be looking at a range of topics related to bullying. Anti bullying week presents a good opportunity to look at bullying – where does it happen?, in what forms it can happen and who can be effected.

The theme for this year’s Anti-Bullying Week is to choose respect over bullying.

Following a consultation with over 800 children, teachers and members of the Anti-Bullying Alliance, it emerged that a top priority was showing that bullying is often a behaviour choice, and that children and young people can set a positive example by opting to respect each other at school, in their homes and communities, and online.

Welcome back to the new school year!

Welcome back to all our students and to everyone who is part of the Philpots Community. Over the holiday people have been busy decorating and preparing the site for the new term. We have a freshly painted Art Block and Main School building as well as a refurbished ICT room. We also have some new students and new members of staff to welcome to the school!

GCSE Results 2018

At Philpots we offer our students a wide variety of GCSEs and this year was no different. Our students were expecting results in Biology, Maths, English and Astronomy. Congratulations to all our hard-working students on their GCSE results this year. Highlights include a B, three grade 5s, and  a grade 6.

Congratulations to all our students who have done themselves proud!
